The Eclectic Show offers an arrangement of talents
There may have been very few similarities between the artists, but the Eclectic Show, presented by the North Coast Performers Society, had something for everyone.
Three groups performed throughout the evening to a packed audience at the Tom Rooney Playhouse on Oct. 20.
First up were the Omana Middle Eastern Dancers, Omana and Saraphina, showcasing cultural belly dancing. The pair also held an introductory belly dance workshop at the Dance Academy of Prince Rupert on Saturday, with approximately a dozen people attending.
Skeena Skiffle performed next, consisting of Prince Rupert's own Ray Leonard and Cynthia Pyde, as well as Terrace musicians Mark Fleming and James Powell. The group delivered toe tapping skiffle songs, combining guitars, a washboard, bells, a blade of grass and a makeshift stand-up bass built out of a bass drum, hockey stick, racing bike pedal and sash cord.
Also performing was Smithers' band the Klezmer Katz consisting of Kiri Daust, Madeline Lough, Sharon Carrington, Karen Price, Ben Weinstein and Jeannette Lough. The group's sound can be described as upbeat Eastern European Folk Music coming from Gypsy and Jewish musical traditions.
The artists did a tour of the northwest, performing in Smithers and Terrace before Prince Rupert.
