Fun and food at the 39th Annual Filipino Night
Prince Rupert’s Filipino community and all their friends were out to celebrate their culture with plenty food, music and dancing on Sunday night.
It was the Filipino Canadian Association’s 39th Annual Filipino Night and over three hundred people from as far away as Kitimat packed the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre’s auditorium late into the night.
Besides a large banquet there were also speeches from the Filipino Canadian Association’s president, Ely Abecia, MLA Gary Coons, and deputy mayor Nelson Kinney, and plenty of after dinner entertainment.
Kitimat city councilor Edwin Empinado did a magic show that involved magically removing the underwear of Nelson Kinney and Prince Rupert city councilor Jennifer Rice’s bra.
There was also a demonstration of the dance-inspired exercise regimen called “Zumba,” as well as traditional Filipino Dances such as Bulaklakan, Carinosa and Saya sa Banko; which involved two people dancing on a bench.
There was also much, much dancing with live music provided by The Restless Band.
