Paws and Claws Thrift Store donates $400 to Cannery Road Animal Rescue society
Since opening in the beginning of June, Paws and Claws Thrift Store has been steadily growing its business, which means that one local organization that aims to resolve the stray cat problem in the region can also grow.
Each month, the store gives just under half its profits to the Cannery Road Animal Rescue society based out of Port Edward, with the society being presented a cheque for $400 this month, double the amount they were given in June. The Cannery Road Animal Rescue society is currently looking after 14 cats, with more kittens on the way.
In recent weeks, Alice Kruta, one of the founding members of the Cannery Road society, has been working with Kim St. Pierre of Paws for Thoughts, who has been showing her the extent of the stray cat problem in Prince Rupert.
Both communities have struggled for many years with stray cats that are often malnourished and unhealthy, with a solution still not in place.
Paws and Claws Thrift Store is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Anyone wishing to donate items can do so by dropping them off at the store, or can have items picked up by calling 250-600-3444.
