Runners take on Mount Robson

Runners from Prince Rupert will be competing in the Mount Robson ultra-marathon Sep. 9th. Samantha Kasdorf, Judson Rowse, Caitlin Dubiel and Mary Denton will all take part in the run, which will take place on the Berg Lake Trail. The route passes through several different environmental zones, and runners will have to deal with an elevation gain of 825 metres over 25 kilometres over the course of the race.

Riding to conquer Cancer

The Ninth Annual Ride to Conquer Cancer is taking place in Vancouver Aug. 26-27. Prince Rupert will be represented by 14 riders including Mariano Cruz, Joseph Girodano, Heather Hadland-Dudoward, Michael Hamilton, Emma Hay, Janness Iverson, Kerrie Kennedy, Chris Last, Bill Parmar, Christa Simonds, Gordon Simonds, Dayna Tait, Steve Weir and team captain Francis Wolf. So far the team has raised a total of $40,200 for the ride.

Peterson drags home silver

Shelby Peterson brought home a second place finish at the Houston Drags race event Aug 19-20. Peterson, a 13-year-old who has been competing in junior drag races since 2013 has been competing against other young racing talent from the region.

Seven-a-side soccer

The Prince Rupert seven-a-side co-ed soccer league continued with league play as the summer season enters its final weeks. On Wednesday Aug. 16, Red District lost by default to the Purple Cobras, Mountain Dew Defeated Orange Crush 6-4, Blue Balls beat the Net Knicks 5-3 and Top Gun took home the victory against White 7-5. Wednesday and Sunday continue this week.
