A break in a water main forced an emergency shutdown of water to residents in Prince Rupert’s west side today.

Crews began repairs to the main at noon and by 4 p.m. had begun backfilling the worksite.

The emergency shutdown affected residents of 11th Street, Beach Place and Water Street.

Traffic at the intersection of 11th Street and 2nd Avenue was also impeded during the work.

The Public Works department was unaware of what exactly caused the break, but said the city does not anticipate any further disruptions to service.

The break is unrelated to emergency road repairs on another section of 2nd Avenue.
