Bandstra forklift operator Jeremy White readies boxes of 1,000 used pairs of eyeglasses, sunglasses and magnifiers (readers) to be shipped to the Caglary CLERC (Children’s Legal and Educational Resource Centre) to be cleaned and categorized for prescription. The Prince Rupert Lions Club has been collecting unused eyeglasses in Prince Rupert with deposit containers at Coastal EyeCare and Omni Vision, as well as some churches, two local thrift stores and the Legion. The Lions’ initiative is part of Lions SightFirst projects around the world. Bandstra provided shipping to Calgary free of charge, and CLERC has processed four million pairs of prescription eyeglasses since its inception. Jim Martin photo.
