Class celebrates World Oceans Day, video conference with Vancouver Aquarium
On Friday June 8, a Grade 2 class from Conrad Elementary School celebrated World Oceans Day by doing a video conference with the Vancouver Aquarium, conducted at the World Wildlife Federation office in Prince Rupert. The video conference opened by students singing the Tsimshian Peace Song. Then they sang a song written by Kristen Hoffman of New York who wrote "Song for the Ocean." Hoffman's wish is to have over a million voices singing her dong and hope this song will become the official anthem for the ocean. Students shared what they love about the ocean, their favorite ocean activity, favorite ocean creatures and what problems they know about the ocean. They also presented their ocean wishes. Vancouver Aquarium Experts answered many of the students questions and showed students some aquatic life. These students wishes that every day is World Ocean's Day so people take better care of their ocean.
