About Us

In 2006 the first issue of The Northern View hit the streets of Prince Rupert, and the team at the paper hasn't looked back since. The paper started when the staff of Look Inside Publications - Barb Burton, Mike Slubowski and Shaun Thomas - became a part of Black Press in May, 2006. After bringing Lisa Letnes aboard to look after circulation, The Northern View was distributed free to residents of Port Edward, Prince Rupert and the surrounding First Nations villages on July 26, 2006. Circulation has grown to include the Queen Charlotte Islands/Haida Gwaii; the office has grown from a corner space in another business to a large downtown office; and the staff has grown to include a second reporter and a front office assistant/salesperson. The Northern View is now a strong and respected media presence in the communities it serves. Nestled on Kaien Island, Prince Rupert is undergoing a shift in economy as Canada's newest container port, with the first ship arriving in October of 2007. Prince Rupert is set to be the home of the province's first wind farm on Mount Hays. And this year will see 100,000 passengers come through the city's cruise ship dock. Those developments, coupled with a rich First Nations culture, a lively arts and entertainment scene and a handful of major community events, help ensure the team at The Northern View are kept busy and the paper is filled with the stories that matter to those who call our region home.
